91 Stealth es,non turbo
Need Help...
I gave my son a 1991 Stealth ES for graduation....He lives in Texas...I live in North Carolina...........The engine died and will not restart...Only fires on 2 Cyls...Replaced Coil,Ignition module,Cam angle sensor and ECU...Still will not start... I am 1200 miles away from him and I have no reference material to tell him what to do. Could use help PLEASE

is the car getting spark on all the plugs? ik you replaced the coil and ignition module but maybe ur plugs or plug wires are bad. does it try to fire or just turn over? do u have proper fuel pressure to all cylinders? have you done a compression test?

have you checked the PTU unit behind the coils?

Ref 91 Stealth...
My son stated that he was driving along when the engine stopped..Was able to restart and get home...He says he and his friends checked the spark and only had spark on (looking at engine from front he says that the first and second plugs would fire and the engine would flood and have small backfire I told him to check timing but a 19 yoa who is disgusted is hard to deal with. |

sounds like plug wires possibly, he replaced the coil and stuff rite? if he is getting fuel but no spark on the cylinders then its gotta be plug wires, did he check the back plugs for spark? make sure all plug wires are in the correct order in the coil pack as well. its kinda rare but not unlikely that the plug wires could go bad like that but if they are old which im assuming they are, thats what i would try.

Just talked to my son and he says they took each wire from the coil and turned the engine over and that only 2 terminals on coil pack fired,he also said that that the ECU that was taken out and replaced appeared to have aburned capacitor, Right now he is waiting on his friend to return from an out town trip before resuming work. He seems to think his friend knows how to work on cars.We will see.....
