88 chrysler new yorker petcock

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and kinda new to cars, don't worry I know the basics. I drive an 1988 Chrysler New Yorker, I know it's not exactly balls out muscle, but it runs. Anyway the petcock is bad in it and I'm not sure how to change it. If someone could kinda give me a step by step I'd appreciate it

I don't know your car exactly bu if you need to replace a radiator petcock get a pan to drain into and open it when the engine coolant is cold. Be careful as you'll probably have to shut it off a couple times to dispose of the cold coolant depending on the size of what you're catching it in. From there it's a a standard left turning thread to remove. You can use channel locks for that matter so if you ain't got big time tools you're OK. It screws out of the radiator and the new one goes in. I put teflon tape around the threads for a secure seal. Can get it at any hardware store cheap.

Teflon tape is awesome for the pitcock. Make sure you thread it in correctly, DO NOT FORCE IT. You damage those threads and that radiators gonna have to come out. Its really simple though, should be able to find that pitcock at your local parts store too i think.

This is a three year old thread, so likely your good advice is wasted as the problem (and possibly the car) is long gone.

Please do not resurrect old threads. It is often pointless and annoying to other members.
