failing inspection due to nitrogen emissions

1984 Pontiac Trans Am 305

i heard it is an easy fix, like a messed up egr valve or something, i didnt exactly hear the guy that was telling me what was up when his car had the same problem. but anyway, any idea what i need to do to get this fixed so i can finally get my car passed.

and also i need to fix the parking brake. any tips?

Increased nitrogen is a result of a defective egr or a component in the system such a thermostatic control device or ported vacuum device or a faulty vacum hose leading to the EGR. You could test the egr with a vacuum pump to see if it opens. I would also inspect the chamber underneath for any kind of buildup or restriction. I would replace all of the components in the system.
