Problem with cooling water...

Hello I am again...

Now I have an problem with cooling water.
When i bought my Lumina 3.1 there was no cooling water in. Today i wanted make new water in the cooler and container, and the water was in 2 sec. empty in the cooler and 5 min. later empty in the container.
The oil display shows me after this full pressure when I put the key in.
But the water is faster empty then it runs out. It come from the engine block.
I think it goes in the engine block and flows over.

Re: Problem with cooling water...

I kind of understand that the water spills under the car... It flows out using some failure in the containment system....right? Please make that clear.
TRy to identify where it goes out....water pump bearing is a common place, plus all hoses to/from radiator and heating system...THere are some connectors on top of intake manifold that have been reported as failed in previous threads..www.avigex.ca/xport/Heaterinletpipe.jpg
The 3.1 is plagued with head gasket problems...but as described, I think it is something else this time....

I do not see the link between what you describe and oil gauge showing full pressure...specially as the oil needle with the 3.1 is just an indicator, not a real gauge: the needle shows pressure, or not, period, just like an idiot light.
(The 3.8 has a real pressure sensor).

HOwl ong will it take to empty the water reserve tank? Will it do it while it runs at idle, under your eyes?...THis would indicate the cooling system is subject to a vacuum condition...so a few more details and search from you are needed.......

ahhhh....please explain the belt not being on the pulleys...did you run the engine witout the belt installed??

Re: Problem with cooling water...

Hi,

first the cooler goes empty, in 3 Seconds I didnt see water anymore, after 2-3 Minutes the container goes empty after 10 Minutes both are empty.
I didnt run the engine i fill it on cold engine in, and no i didnt start the engine without the belt.
The belt was ready and I order a new one.

Re: Problem with cooling water...

...and where goes the water after that? ON the floor under the car...or in the engine ?
THe reserve plastic tank is normally siphoned out by vacuum when the cooling system cools down to ambient temperature after the engine operates, as this tank is lower than its connection to the car radiator....so it should not empty just by itself.....some hose must be unplugged .
WHen you see all of that happening, do you have the cap installed and tight on the car radiator..
most obviously, check all main hoses connected to the radiator or the radiator itself..I think it empties from the bottom and with the cap on, it siphons the reserve tank down....

Re: Problem with cooling water...

I will check the hoses when I am home, the water goes on the floor, and what I can see it come from the engine but it comes not so much water out what I fill in.
I filled 12 Liters in and it come max. 1 Liter out, but the cooler and container are empty again.

Re: Problem with cooling water...

Pull the oil dipstick, then.....and read the level...or better...drain the oil pan....my guess is you will find where your water was gone...

What does that mean? Half the length of the stick, or half way point on the short scale at the end?
If the former is true, .....no need to change the filter....

Re: Problem with cooling water...

Severe problem then.....this engine is full of water...due for a thorough investigation..to say the least.....
this even seems unexplanable by just a head gasket failure....which would be the minimum diagnostic in this case...really sorry....

Re: Problem with cooling water...

I didnt start the engine. But this is nothing change with the situation with head gasekt? I fill water when the engine was cold, and I never start the engine, the water goes in the enginge direct from the cooler..

Re: Problem with cooling water...

Water filling the crankcase has no simple and easy repair. In any case you have a severe water intrusion frm the cooling system direct to the engine block....so you cannot escape considering dismantling the engine starting with the intake manifold..... and on and on...or consider a complete engine swap. THe 3.1 has a highly documented gasket faillure history..and what you describe seems to be a worst case...

Re: Problem with cooling water...

So, I did change the intake manifold gasket, but the problem is still there.
It comes from water pump into the engine, so what can I do? The Water come not out by the upper cooling hose, so the own possible is the water pump.

Re: Problem with cooling water...

...head gasket failure was hinted on may 3 reply.....intake gasket was just a way point on the path to complete head removal... hence the suggestion to possibly swap the entire engine, as crankshaft operation in a bath of oil and water might have caused damage beyond repair. Based on your previous descriptions, the speed at which the water goes direct to the oil p an might point to a cracked block or head.
Water pump does not connect to the oil pan..so it is not a factor here.
