87 Cherokee antenna

Can anyone tell me how to get to it? I just bought the jeep and the antenna was broken off. Took the nut off it at the top of the broken antenna part, and the antenna base fell inside. How do you access it? Thanks

Re: 87 Cherokee antenna

Hi.

Never done it before, but it appears that you must get inside the fender to get at the bottom of the antenna. Not sure if the fender must come off for this, but it looks like a bit of a pain in the butt to do. Here is the assembly diagram. (It is for a newer cherokee, but it should still be similar, if not the same.)

The non-powered antenna is on the bottom left of the picture. Hope that helps!

That's the easiest way to get to it as you'll probably have to replace the antenna cable that goes through the rubber grommet inside the fender. Plus it will also give you a chance to rinse out all the mud and gunk that accumulates inside the fender naturally.
