Question 2000 LeSabre Dual Climate Control

Tried searching this, finding nothing specific to my problem

2000 LeSabre: just had my dual climate control [head] replaced because some of the night time illumination lights were burnt out. This was done under warranty [reluctantly] @ Dealer. Everything was working fine with Air-Heat previous to taking the car in.

We picked the car up and after a few blocks realized the air conditioning was not working. All the vents [both sides] were blowing warm air. I adjusted the temp down as far as it would go and nothing happened so I asked the wife to adjust her door control down ... nothing.

Took the car back to Dealer and a scan was done. At first the tech said he could not pull any codes. Then he said he tried to reset something with no luck and finally he said he pulled a code relating to the right side temperature door actuator. The Dealer wants $375 to replace the part.

My question is would the right side temp door actuator cause both sides to blow warm air? This happens even when I switch to vents ... feels like the same temperature. From what I read in other forums these actuators seem to control individual sides ... right?

The other thing I read is when the unit does go it normally shuts off the heat not the cold. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions ... I am real skeptical of this Dealer ... he is not too happy he had to replace this control unit under warranty I am concerned this is a bad diagnosis. The compressor is working OK.

IF the consensus say the dealer is right [benefit of doubt] how hard is it to replace this part.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks D.

add nauseum: This morning it was cold enough to really check the heat. Sure enough I DID get heat on the drivers side only, the passenger blew cold. The fault code was correct and it looks like my R/S Temp door actuator is toast. It is just coincidence it decided to go when the new head was put in.

Is it hard to replace and I hope the part is not a Dealer item.

This still does not explain my A/C problem though ...

Thanks

Re: 2000 LeSabre Dual Climate Control

The dealer replaced mine a few years ago, and I was able to see most of what was done. You have to remove the panel in the passenger footwell, for access. It did not look difficult to replace, and would do it myself if it happens again.

Re: 2000 LeSabre Dual Climate Control

Any update on this?

My wifes 96 LeSabre puts out heat on the passenger side about 90% of the time, sometimes it will actuate to cool temoperaily.

I would love to know where this actuator is.
