5.3 For Towing?? Any experiences?

I am in the market for a truck. Must be automatic, 4x4, long bed (for 22 foot fifth wheel) and used. I found one a 1998 2500 Silverado with at 5.3 in it. I live in Colorado Springs and we tow the camper up some of the lower passes. I am not familiar with the 5.3 and was wondering if it would be under powered for what I need it to do? Thanks

not really a good comparison but i have a 2002 1500 with a 5.3 and it pulled a LOADED down 14 foot enclosed trailer from Michigan to California and back without any issues. It took the mountains fine. I did notice about a 3-4 MPG drop though.

Gear ratio and a good heavey towing package helps on towing.
Large rad and transmission cooler is a must to have.
You have to keep the engine and transmission cool.
If no tow haul switch always do heavy towing out of OD.

98 2500 would have a 350 or a second generation V8 right?

I would stay away from this one. Get a 6.0 or a diesel. I mean these trucks are good, but they have issue with the rear ends and trannies. I would get an HD, or get a dodge cummins. I wont be buying another chevrolet truck.
