Re: 2002 grand am sunroof issues

with the sun roof check that thiers nothing in the tracks jambing it. Could also have a bad motor.

With your windows, could just need some track lube, or your regulator/motor might be shot.
Heres a link for teh windows... http://www.a1electric.com/grandam.htm

Also, I would be carefull about pulling the windows up, you could damage the clips the window rides up/down on.

Good Luck

Re: 2002 grand am sunroof issues

I have the same problem. Actually just started an hour ago. Any solutions yet? If so, cost, detail of problem, etc please? I really need to get this fixed as my car is stored outside and weather is way too unpredictable here in Windsor.

Re: 2002 grand am sunroof issues

I have a 2000 olds alero, which is essentially the same body and probably similar sunroof assembly. I have the same problem for the last year where the sunroof will not fully seat back into the closed position, nor will it fully open. I hear the electic click on when I depress the switch but nothing happens. A day or two later things are back to proper operation. All is well until a few months later than I will have the same problem. I have the problem now...(and we're due for a good amount or rain tonight...!)

I have read another post where an owner could only get his sunroof to work when he manually turned on his daytime running lights. I plan on checking some of these electircal combinations to see if its a day/night thing...I'll report anything here...

Re: 2002 grand am sunroof issues

The only way to find out what is going wrong is to drop the headliner and have a look.

If the roof isnt opening or closing all the way, chances are thiers something broke or worn out and needing replaced.

Also the DRL's do not effect the sun roof, as it is on its own circuit.
Though it could be something simple such as needing some lubrication on the track assembly. without looking.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Re: 2002 grand am sunroof issues

Re: 2000 Alero sunroof not closing all the way:

I do think it may be just grit or some other obstruction on the rails that may be obstructing the closure.

I've given it a quick rubdown and sprayed with WD40 and it worked.

I'd like to do a more thorough job by cleaning and re-lubing the tracks and mechanisms.

Has anyone done anything similar? Any reccomendations for the correct track/rail lube for this?

Thanks
