94 Thunderbird A/C and knocking noise

Hi all I am new here and need some help on a couple things.

First off when i start up my car there seems too be a loud knocking noise coming from behind the stereo. It started occasionally when my car was cold, and then began all the time when driving it cold or starting. Although sometimes it does turn off it seems after the car is war.

Second my A/C doesn't seem to work and i would like to get it working before summer. It blows out air and thats all. My heater works great. Should i see a a/c specialist to fix the problem or can i fix it personally?

Re: 94 Thunderbird A/C and knocking noise

Welcome to the forum fl0bby. As for the knocking sound, I would suggest raising the hood and looking in the engine comparment to see if the noise is coming from there. This is a hard question to answer without hearing it.
The air conditioner may have lost pressure due to a leak. You could buy a kit that includes some freon with dye to put into the system and a black light to look for leaks. If you don't have the correct equipment to service an air conditioner then I would highly recommend taking it to a shop since to charge a system correctly, it needs to be evacuated with a vacuum pump before charging.

Re: 94 Thunderbird A/C and knocking noise

Is the knocking when cold you are refering to, more of a ticking sound? My 94 3.8 ticks when it's cold then goes away when it warms up. I went as far as tearing off the top end and replacing the lifters and it still ticks when cold. Spent alot of money and time trying to do away with this irritating noise and have yet to get rid of it! If you locate it, post a reply and let me know what it was
