is my clutch messed up?

so i was backing out of my driveway this morning and shifted from reverse to drive and it jerked the car and thought it was no big deal but when i was driving out of my housing complex at like 15 mph it kinda jerked a little when it shifted from first to second but it wasnt anything real noticable, but when i was driving on the road and it shifted at like 35mph from first to second it felt like i was going to get launched out the window and each time it would shift from one gear to another it would jerk.

could it be my clutch cuz it only happens when it shifts and how much do you think it will be costing me to fix it?

and for those who dont know its an automatic 4 speed

any help would be nice. thanks

Re: is my clutch messed up?

Do a filter and fluid change. Then let us know what happens.

Re: is my clutch messed up?

so my dad came home and the first thing he went to check was the trans fluid and guess what.... there is no dip stick to check it with and i called advanced auto parts and they said they dont carry it and it cant be ordered and when i looked into the owners manual it says the 4 speed auto trans is not owner servicable thus meaning no need for the dip stick.

so we are eye balling it and we slowely put 1 quart in while testing it every like 1/4 quart to make sure we didnt put too much in and that didnt work so we just keep putting more in till we can see it and so far we have put 3 quarts in. we took it out for a drive and that fixed the problem for like 1 mile then back to crap so we think thats the problem and it just needs more cuz it probly dispersed in the trans when we took it out and made it go crappy again.

but here is the thing that blows my mind.... how does 3+ quarts of fluid just magicly disapear over night with no red puddles in the driveway?? i mean it was perfect yesterday and now this morning its crap, dont you think it would have shown signs of losing fluid over time and not just within 10 hours?

and we checked the oil, and coolant to see if it was leaking into the engine and its all clean so the trans fluid must be the magic disapearing kind

Re: is my clutch messed up?

ok, we figured out how much to put in and 3 quarts was about right but that didnt fix the problem cuz there was a broken wire that leads to the trans and that just needed to be reconnected but if that wire was not broken i would not have put the missing fluid in and would have probly blown the trans later on so i guess its a good thing.

Re: is my clutch messed up?

How to check 4-speed automatic trans., 4T40E lift car up LEVEL high enough to get under car .Start car and shift through all gears and run for at least 5 minitues get to temp. and shift through gears again getting trans temp up . pull plug out of trans. located near tail section just above trans. pan and just about across from oil drain plug..and below exhuast pipe. Use oil catch pan just incase it has some fluid in it to leak out. If no fluid leaks out add at top till it does keep car running while checking!!! ....CAUTION don't kill yourself 4-proper jack stands required PG. 1-28 of haynes repair manual GET a book it's worth it

Re: is my clutch messed up?
