Grade-up VS. Super detail kits

The flame wars may start with this question, but , before I shell out $300, what is the best route for building super detail models of these vehicles:

1) GT-40 - Fujimi with KA Models or HRM resin VS. Lemans Miniatures Hi grade

2) 250 TR - Model factory Hiro VS Hasegawa + any grade up

3) Cobra Daytona - HRM resin vs Model Factory Hiro vs Gunze S.

Re: Grade-up VS. Super detail kits

Just my opinion. Others may differ.

1) GT-40 - Fujimi with KA Models or HRM resin VS. Lemans Miniatures Hi grade:

I have the HRM engine kit plus a Fujimi GT40(MK2) and the LeMans Miniature GT-40. Both options are buildable. Another modeler, of extremely high skills, has worked on the LeMans Miniature GT-40 and said he had a terrible time with warped parts and getting things to fit. Given that, I’d opt for the HRM. The KA Models transkit looks great, but is for a MK1. The HRM transkit is typical of Harold’s work.

2) 250 TR - Model factory Hiro VS Hasegawa + any grade up:

I have both. The Hasegawa would allow for a lot more opening parts, if you’re into that. I got the Hasegawa with the KA detail set and waiting for the HRM engine upgrade. The MFH is multimedia with a slightly thick body, but offers tremendous detail. I’m looking at doing the Hasegawa first.

3) Cobra Daytona - HRM resin vs Model Factory Hiro vs Gunze S.

I have the HRM kit and it is fantastic. The finely molded parts are unbelievable. I didn’t buy the MFH and never found a Gunze S., so I can’t compare. With me, it’s the HRM kit.

No he doesn't. I know that both Strada Sports and Island Collectibles carry a wide range of HRM products and both are highly reputable merchants.

Strada Sports URL is

http://www.stradasports.com/

and Island Collectibles is:

http://www.islandcollectibles.net/

Re: Grade-up VS. Super detail kits

I have the Historic Racing Miniatures (HRM) 917 engine, it is pretty nice. But for GT40, I wasn't sure as it is billed as a Mk1 and I haven't researched the differences in GT-40 engines.
As for the Cobra - Can you post a couple of pics of the kit??

The HRM-302 GT40 MK-I Engine Suspension kit isfor use in the Fujimi GT 40 MK1 kits. Consists of engine and trans axle, Gurney Westlake heads and valve covers. headers and exhaust. Half shafts shocks suspension links, oil tanks sway bar mounts and instructions. The same engine was supposedly used in some MK2's, but I'd have to research that to prove it also.

I figured I had 427 engine parts that could be mated to the transaxle and get me farther along. Or, bite the bullet and get a GT-40 MK1.

The KA set has panels and components for opening up a GT-40 MK1.

I have a lot of detail shots of a MK2 taken a few years back and was going to review it before going forward on a GT-40.

I am apprehensive about getting going on the LeMans Miniature and then getting frustrated with fit.
