used cars great gas mileage, under 4k, sporty?

I just had to sell my 78 Camaro Z28 because gas is so stupidly expensive in LA and I have to commute this summer. So now I've got $4000 and I'm looking for something with good gas mileage, sporty enough to maybe take autocrossing, and is decent on the eyes. The only thing I've come up with so far is like a 92-93 Honda Prelude. Can anyone think of anything else like that? Thanks

If you can increase your budget a bit, there are great cars that you can buy.[b]I would advice you shelling out a little more and finding a car that's not going to breakdown soon.
