Need some help: '96 SS swap LS6

My father bought an LS6 and an automatic tranny for his '96 Impala SS. Now he took it to a shop (regular mechanic he knows) and told him it could cost up to 20k to install it. One of the things that needs to be done is the exhaust manifold is to big and needs some welding done.

Has or does anyone know of someone doing this swap and what all did it intail of doing? I got a quote from someone down here in Houston that would do it for 6.5k.

That one is going to be all custom work, from the mounts to the fuel lines to the wiring harness and PCM to the exhaust. If you're paying a shop by the hour to perform the swap, it's likely going to get very expensive. If the shop doesn't specialize in custom work, the results might not be satisfactory.

Yes I'm aware of that.
