2005 Impala Powe Loss
I have a 2005 Impala V6. It has about 20,000 miles on it. I bought it about 3 months ago with over 17,000 miles on it.
I drove my Impala Saturday morning & it was fine. I met with my dad & he started driving my car & I rode with him. He filled up my tank @ a Valero Gas Station. A few hours later when I got back behind the wheel I noticed that my car was driving kinda sluggish & didn't have the acceleration that Im used to. I ignored it and thought I was just imagining it. Then about an hour after I got behind the wheel I was driving and the car just lost all power. I was going through an intersection and pumping the gas with my foot and wasnt getting any power or acceleration. The engine wasn't even reving. I thought the car had stalled but it didnt. After a few seconds the power came back and I kept driving. However the sluggishness got even worse after that. I could get up to high speed but it took way more than usual to get there. If I was to just smash the gas to pass a car or something like I may usually do, the car picked up speed very slow compared to what i've been used to since I first bought it. No warning lights or anything have come on in the car. Could it be bad gas? Or even worse... a transmission problem? Or something else? I've only had the car about 3 months. I bought it with only 17,000 miles on it and it has an extended warranty. So we are going to take it to the dealership to have them check it out Saturday. Should we tell them about the gas or when we tell them the problem and they check it out will they be able to discover it on their own? |

Re: 2005 Impala Powe Loss
Im going to venture a guess and say its the fuel, your best bet is to have the fuel filter changed. Its simple and cheap and may need it anyway. You more than likely would have noticed some transmission issues occasionaly prior to this and the engine should still rev if the transmission is slipping etc.

I don't really think it would be the transmission. The only time I've ever experienced a hard shift into gear in this car was when I parked on a hill one time. And I was told thats normal when you park on a hill. Anyway... Is there anything besides the gas that could potentially be the problem? |

Oh yea... and another thing I noticed was that once I get to 3rd gear... if I punch it and it changes into the next gear (sluggishly but it changes)... I hear a high pitched whistle...
