License plate lights removal...

Anyone change the rear license plate light bulbs out? I am trying to figure out how to get the outside cover off to get to the bulbs. It looks like it has tabs, but I know they are going to break if I force it. If you have the right way to take it out, please let me know.

I have a 95' park avenue and you have to go thru the top of the license plate housing and unscrew the light housing. might not be the same for a 99' though.

Might be different because there aren't any screws to undo. Just a cover that looks like it should pop out, but once I do it will break the tabs.

In order to access the license plate lights, you have to remove the rear light panel.

Remove the carpet from the rear edge of the trunk lid...it is held on with plastic plugs. Then there are about 8 or 10 nuts to remove (2 of which are for the trunk lock and don't have to be removed). The panel should come straight off then. The wiring is still attached, but can be disconnected at the connector to make it easier. All of the lights in the panel can be accessed at this point.

Before you start, check to see that all of your tail/brake/signal/backup/license lights are working. While you have the panel off, you can replace any lights that are burned out. My Park keeps burning out brake lights right and left. I think I've replace almost all brake lights, plus one or two turn signal lights, as well. Since taking the back panel off is a nuisance, you might as well replace any lights that are burned out while you have it off.

Thanks for the tip. I coulda swore there wasn't any thing to unscrew on the deck lid, but I'll have to check again.
