Question 1996 T&C Air Filter - How to change it?

3.8L. How do you change that thing? It seems to be buried in there with no obvious way to get to it. Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up Re: 1996 T&C Air Filter - How to change it?

Thanks! I see the Chrysler engineers did a really good job making that a simple thing to do.

No wonder I couldn't figure it out!

Have you changed the rear 3 spark plugs yet? The engineers worked overtime on those little gems.

Re: 1996 T&C Air Filter - How to change it?

OK, there is a potential problem with the Autozone instructions as posted. After removing all the connections noted including the cleaner to radiator crossmember bolt, I could not get the entire assembly to come out. It refused to budge. I was lucky to get it back together so I could drive it over to Firestone (local shop open on Sunday).

They helped me at no charge, despite the fact it took the guy 15 minutes to do it. He didn't remove that crossmember bolt. Instead he simply loosened the hose clamp under the resonator and pulled just the upper part out, leaving the air cleaner still attached to the frame. The he swapped out the filter (even that wasn't easy - he had trouble getting the filter box clamped back together).

Anyway, if you do this yourself, DON'T try to take the entire assembly out unless you've done it before. There wasn't enough room in mine to get the thing out in one piece.

As I recall, I don't remove the filter housing, just the inlet resonator assembly. Don't recall it being a major deal. I guess Autozone thought their way would make accessing the filter element easier. Who knows. Thanks for passing the info along.
