Go for an 00, there is not a lot of aftermarket support for the 7th gens yet.

yet. I would say what the hell? If you got the cash, why not buy the '03? Newer car, get the big engine, it won't be long before there is some aftermarket stuff. Cheap parts would be hard to find, nuthin' used or swapped really. But it's only a matter of time, and half the fun is findin' a way to make it work.
-Course, Im a newbie and Melt is a lvl 6, sooooooo..... you may wanna take his advie. BTW wicked cool picture on that speed trap!

Everyone loves the avatar, thanks.

You might want to ask someone with more knowledge of 7th gens cause I have seen a couple now with stuff like intake / exhaust, but to the best of my knowledge you cant put very agressive parts on em cause they are classified as a SLEV (super low emissions vechile) and they barely fall into that class stock and so if you do anything, they fail.

I see a lot of them with just CAI and when I ask people, why no other mods, their answer is usually smog related

Melt is right and wrong.
Right, doing more than one or two mods will push it over the limit.
Wrong, there are tons of things out for the 7th gen. As many as the 5th and 6th? no. But there are plenty to get you started, by the time you need/want more there will be more. I have a friend with an 01 civic that has done i/h/e, wheels, HIDs, some stlying parts, suspension and would do more if he had the money.
Here's some pics

funkin A man, i got a shorty CAI by injen, and just ordered exhaust from Thermal R&D, there are strut bars, sway bars, cam gears, pulleys, headers, high flow cats, but an assortment of companies. I think places start making parts before the new year comes out, Aftermarket parts are never in slim supply for a civic
