motor ticking after shut off

I have a 1981 chevorlet custom deluxe. I havnt driven it in like 2 months and this past week i tried starting it. it took like 20 minutes to get it to start. Ater i got it started i let it run for like 20 minutes. after i moved it i turned it off and when i turned it off it started smoking. (he smoke was like a light gray). Then their was a ticking noise coming from the block. idk wat it was and i havnt started it since then just need some one to just give me a suggestion on wat they think. Just let me no what you think it is.

Re: motor ticking after shut off

Sounds like the ticking is the hot engine/exhaust is contracting as it cools after being heated.

Re: motor ticking after shut off

Even after 10 minutes the engine gets pretty warm and the smoke was probably from a small oil leak. I wouldn't worry about it.

lol, you would be surprised how hot it gets

i bet after 30 seconds of it running you will be unable to touch the exhaust manifolds for more than a second
