Jetta Mk4 (or most everyother car) Headlight restoration project
Well, I was changing my oil and rotating my tires now the spring season was getting into swing here in New York. I noticed that my headlights were rather foggy on my 1999.5 Jetta GLS 2.0L (actully this was something that had been bothing me sense I got the car 2 years ago).
So, I took the initiative this time around to go to my local Advanced Auto and purchased the Crystal View Headlight Restoration Kit for about 20 dollars. The kit included the following: -2 pieces of 1000 grit sandpaper -2 piecies of 2500 grit sandpaper -2 pouches of CV-#1 (a cleaning solution) -4 pouches of CV-#2 (a plastic buffing compound) -8 HydroWeave clothes -A (yes a single) Latex Glove -Instructions What the kit did not include that would be necessary and/or very useful is: -water (for the wetsanding process) -masking or painters tape (to protect the surronding paint form getting damaged from either sandpaper or the chemicals) -papertowels (to dry the headlights after the wetsanding process) Here are some before pictures of my Jetta: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was very thorough with the wet sanding process so, I ended up wet sanding each headlight 4 times, twice per diffrent sandpaper grit value. I pretty much doubled up on all the instructions including the use of the CV-#1 and the CV-#2 steps. Two and a half hours later I was finnised with the restoration project, and here are the restults: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Eventhough it took a good bit of time and elbow grease I would say that this headlight restoration kit by Crystal View Chemicals Inc. was well worth it. Only thing I would have to fore warn you about is that you should set aside the time to do this and do this properly and take your time if you rush threw the steps you will get a result that is undesireable. I would recomend this product to anyone who has a car with old foggy worn in plastic headlights that are in need of a good touch-up. I mean come on its only 20 bucks what do you have to lose? Best wishes, DrSmiley
