Directionals blink too fast

This is only on a right hand turn, when I flip it to go left, the speed is normal. All the bulbs work for the directionals, brake and running lights. Normally I'd say that it would be the blinker can, but this is only happening with right hand turns.

Thanks, Bob

I would start by replacing one bulb at a time with one you know is good if that does not work I would look for a loose ground wire.
good luck

Yeah it seams the turn signal/brights/wipers control stick is not a reliable on like 92 - 2000 it seems. Mine does it occasionally, chances are the bulbs are fine. Try wiggling the control stick around going up and down and front and back. It should fix the problem. sometimes the control gets finacky

Re: Directionals blink too fast

My 99 GM does the same thing except it does it both left and right. It seems to do it much more when it's hot outside. After the AC is on for a while it settles down. Sure seems like a ground problem. I just live with it. It's been going on for 2 years now

My '95 does the same exact thing. All bulbs good. If it were a ground, I would think the light/lights affected would simply not work or at least only work intermittently. Am I wrong?

When I've had fast blink on two other vehicles, replacing the flasher relay fixed the problem.

When my wife complained to the dealer they said there was TSB that the lamps for her 2000gm were redesigned and should be replaced at a cost of $45.

Cool Re: Directionals blink too fast

My GM has 2 bulbs on each side of the rear end. They are both brakes and flasthers. Make sure they are all working. A new bulb for the lights are under $2 at the local autozone. Don't let some idiot tell you to take it to the shop. I just replaced my second one, but it works fine now. Don't get frustrated, its a good car!

Well, aren't I the dumb one..

I never noticed that there were two bulbs but that was the problem exactly.

Re: Directionals blink too fast

Had a sim problem with my 98 MGM and finally replaced the turn signal multifunction switch to cure an intermittent low beam failure. Multifunction switch causes all kinds of intermittent problems with anything that it controls(poor design?)

Re: Directionals blink too fast

To make a long story short, it wound up being the directional switch inside the steeing column.

Re: Directionals blink too fast

This is a known Mercury & Ford problem. The following is FMC Tech Service Bulletin:

Turn Signals - Intermittent Rapid Flashing

Article No.
02-9-7 05/13/02
ELECTRICAL - LAMP - INTERMITTENT RAPID
FLASHING OF THE TURN SIGNALS - VEHICLES
PRODUCED BEFORE 3/5/2002 ONLY FORD:
1998-2002 CROWN VICTORIA MERCURY:
1998-2002 GRAND MARQUIS This article is being republished in its entirety to update the Service Procedure and to update the parts required.
ISSUE
Some vehicles produced before 3/5/2002 may exhibit an intermittent rapid flashing of the turn signals. This may be caused by bulb outage, circuit ground or circuit integrity. Ensure the turn signal fast flash is not due to bulb outage, then verify good continuity at all ground screws. ACTION
If condition is not resolved, replace the Lighting Control Module with the latest level part. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
