p1404 egr

I have this code in my 2000 Montana....looking in forums seems common my question is seeing that it is a pita to get too...do you replace egr or cleaning will fix problem...

most of the time you can clean them with carb cleaner.make sure the piston and the seat where the piston seats are clean.

I tried cleaning mine. Didn't last too long before having to replace it.

Just a "heads up." I got that code (and replaced both the EGR valve and the MAP sensor) on my '02 Saturn and it didn't go away. Within a few days, it became apparent that the catalytic converter was clogged, causing back pressure into the manifold.

Different car, but the same code. Thought I would throw it out there.
