95 Diamante LS 6cyl smoke & OBD code
I have a couple issues and the first is bluish smoke out of a 95 Diamante LS, 3.0L DOHC V6 with auto trans. I just replaced the engine with one that had sat a while and therefore was a bit dry on top as it had been drained. It has 90k on it. Poured in the 10W-40 along with some honey and it fired right up. One lifter made noise but that went away and all seemed well. There never has been any smoke at start up so I do not suspect the valve seals/guides are bad. Drive it for a while and there is no noticeable smoke but let is idle for about 30 - 45 seconds and goose it and you get blue smoke. After a couple revs (~5-10 seconds)it goes away and burns clear again. Let it idle some more and there is no smoke when you goose it. But drive it and the same thing happens the next time you idle. I have 200 miles of driving on it and there is no change. I did a compression check (all about 150psi) and a cylinder leakage check (in the bottom end of green) and all is normal. I replaced the one sticking PCV valve. Plugs look normal. I have not dropped the oil pan to look for shavings. After 100 miles I did fill it up with Premium and added Gunk injector cleaner. Same problem but no noticeable oil consumption after another 100 miles. Are the piston oil rings stuck? Or, is it acutally valve seals? Or, do any of you have knowledge based on history that explains this as other than rings or seals and can offer help. Again, after sitting a couple hours or overnight there is no smoke at startup. Need to get this fixed soonest.
One other thing, after adding the injector cleaner about 20 miles later I got an engine light for the first time. Grounded pin 1 and put VM on pin 12 and read 3 long & 5 short which I think is Hi Speed Fan. I swapped Hi & Lo speed relays and that problem may have gone away but am not sure if the fix was permanent. What is the Hi & Lo speed fan circuits for - how do they work? I expect I will know if the fix was permanent the next 100+ degree day we get.
God bless to all and many thanks for any help on this. Bill
