hi, i just bought a 1997 mercury mountaineer it did not have any key fobs with it i read all the posts as to how to program it and it goes into program mode after turning key on and off 5 times but my key fob wont respond...my question is if there were already 4 remotes previously used on this suv before i got it will i be able to program this one to the suv....i had this one extra from my mustang and it worked great with that...i hate to buy another key fob if i cant program one anyway..oh by the way i replaced the battery in the key fob as well..so thats not the problem..i would appreciate any help thanks so much

When you went into programming mode, did you attempt to program your existing fobs, or does your comment mean that your fobs don't respond, but you are able to enter the programming mode?
The reason I ask is because when you enter the programming mode, depending on how you exit the mode, it will delete any previously programmed fobs. When you go into the programming mode, you need to program all fobs that you want to work. If you can get into programming mode but your existing fobs won't work, there's no real harm in seeing if the Mustang one will. -Rod |

I Think Figured Out The Problem.....i Was Trying To Use The Wrong Key Fob..my Mustang Is A 2001 And My Mountaineer Is A 1997 From Investigation The 1997 Is A 3 Button Fob And The Newer Ones Have 4 Buttons..thanks
