Some things to consider: US models 93-94 didn't have trunk release, low fuel light, power locks and some other things. Honda introduced these items in 95 standard in the Si and VTEC models. They may not be something you would be concerned about, but can be put in if you desire if you get a 93/94 model. The 94-97 VTEC models lower control arms allow for a rear sway bar to be hooked up, but Si and S models all years don't have the mount. YOu would have to upgrade the rear control arms if you got an Si or S if you want a rear sway bar setup. 1995 VTEC models came with everything standard
AC, ABS, etc) The 94 VTEC's AC and ABS was an option, which either requested from the buyer or put on by the dealer. In my opinion the 95 VTEC was the best year, because it had every option available, b16a3 engine with an OBD1 computer (less emission restrictions) and if you like the aux lights the last year available. The 96-97 VTEC's have a b16a2 (same as the 99/00 Civic) with the OBD2(more restrictive computer), no aux lights, and a slight modification to the front bumper (air dams). These are some facts, but you can find more about options, ie stereo, suspension, etc. on www.teamdelsol.com FAQ.You could easily over power the b16a with the d16 with a turbo and internal upgrades. That could be said for most engines I suppose. It's all where you put the money, time, and upgrades to achieve more power. You can get an S or Si model and swap in a b16, b18 (LS, GSR, Type R), B20, H22 all depending on your goals with the sol. You could get the LS or the B20(CRV) and put a b16 head on it converting it to a VTEC. Or just turbo a LS or B20 and receive a lot of power too. The b16 sucks when it comes to torque (111), but the LS, b18, and B20 series engines range close to 130lbs of torque which will yield more performance especially VTEC converted or turbo, super. You can still acheive great power out of the b16 if built right internally, boosted right, and tuned properly. Basically, that can be said with most set ups. I have seen totally tuned d16's kick major ass out of a GSR engine in a sol that wasn't as tuned, etc. But if I was going to swap in a engine then I would choose the b18 or b20 series engine due to more potential through torque and hp that would yeild good street, autox, and drag performance. H22 (just for drag only) Blair 95 VTEC |

Well....I put my opinion in the poll (swap an S model), then I thought better of it. If you're going to get a b16a engine in, you might as well go with what's stock and not worry about labor and finding an engine to swap in, not to mention the car. Now if you were going to swap something like a GSR in, then I'd put it in an S model, since it's not stock in any Sol.
The thing is tho, something to consider, insurance rates are going to be higher for VTEC models than S models. Which is why my first instinct was to go for S. I don't know if you'll come out on top in the long run with an S swapped or VTEC model. ~shrug~ I also vaguely remember reading somewhere that the S model is the lightest of the three???? but don't take my word for it... Do some research, figure out for yourself which would be the wisest plan. www.teamdelsol.com is a good place to start.
