Camaro, GTO, Cobalt SS, and Redline

These races happened last weekend, I just haven’t gotten around to posting them yet. The first one was a guy in a LS1 GTO auto talking crap to my friend in his LS1 camaro 6-speed. My friend told him that it was a V-6 with Z28 badges on it and my friend asked if he wanted to run even though the gto had a v-8. He agreed and they went down to a stretch of road on the outskirts of town where no one was and I followed. When we got there they lined up, and it’s a pretty wide road so I got in the oncoming lane (remember that there is absolutely no one around) and decided to get in on the action….even though I knew the outcome wouldn’t be good for me lol. The guy in the goat warmed up his street tires and turned on traction control, and the raod was kind of sandy because they haven’t gotten around to cleaning them yet…so there wasn’t much traction for us. Anyways gto guy honks 3 very inconsistent honks and takes off, and me and the camaro got a late start because of the way he honked and we both got horrible launches. I started to get wheel hop so I let off and then got on it again and hit the rev limiter in 1st, then I finally recovered and the gto was already 3 cars up. The camaro was back about a car length behind me due to his bad launch also. At about 50 mph in second the gto stopped pulling after he got 4 cars up! He must have gone into 2nd as I was in the best part of second because he never pulled at all after that, But I also couldn’t gain any cars back either. Right as I shifted to 3rd at about 65 the camaro passed me and put 2 cars on me by the time I got to 90 where I let off because he was kicking sand up at my car, and I was a ways back anyways. He continued to gain back the car lengths the gto had on him, and by 120 where they shut down the camaro was ahead by 2 car lengths. I was so surprised at how hard the camaro pulled the gto in the end, but that was race one…and my first 3-way.

Races 2 and 3 were against a cobalt ss. I met the guy the night before and he’s a really cool guy, and his car is an 06 cobalt ss g85 (so he has LSD) with vibrant header/downpipe/catback combo and an intake. He got it dyno’d 3 weeks ago when he put it all on and it put down 245 whp and I didn’t ask him what torque it put down, but I thought those were pretty impressive numbers. The first race was from a 30 roll on that same stretch of road with him being the only one in his car and me having a passenger, except this time there were about 10 cars there with us and 20+ people down at the finish line watching. He honked it down and we took off, I gained a foot or two at first because he spun a little, but he started pulling on me and as I shifted to 3rd he was right next to me. He pulled slowly after that and by the time we got to about 100 he had a car length on me, and I was very happy with that considering all I have is an intake. We turned around and talked for a second and we both commented on how cool the 2 superchargers sounded next to each other, then he asked if I wanted to go from a dig on the way back and I agreed even though I don’t have LSD. We lined up in front of all the people watching us and I honked it down 3 times and to my surprise I got a perfect launch! I eased into it in first and as soon as I got to 5k rpm’s I mashed the gas and right when the pedal hit the floor I quickly shifted to 2nd and stood on it again and didn’t spin at all other than a small chirp! He was about 1 ½ cars back at that point and he was pulling so slowly. I shifted to 3rd right at redline and continued to hold him off with him inching up from behind. Redline came in 3rd so I slammed it into 4th and stood on it for a few more seconds and had to let off at about 110 with him at my back bumper! I was very happy with the outcome of that one considering he has full exhaust over me and I had a passenger and no LSD. He asked how I launched like that and I gave him a few tips and then we all just chilled the rest of the night. He told me the next day that later that night he raced an srt-4 and had him up to 100 where they let off with the srt right next to him, and he said it was all because of the launch. So all in all it was a fun night and I got to meet some cool car guys and get a few races in. I apologize for this being the longest post I have ever had, but it was just so much fun and I wanted to share it with you guys.

More long posts. I like them better than the five word "we racxord and Ize wonnnnnz slutz" shit that I'm seeing more an more. Sounds like some fun races out there, I'd still like another run with a Ion Redline/Cobalt SSSC where I can talk to the driver and see what he has.

Re: Camaro, GTO, Cobalt SS, and Redline

good races, but you need to learn how the LSD works and what it exactly does. Your putting way to much emphasis on the LSD making a difference in a straight line race.

Yeah i guess your right...i bet he would have me in the twisties. But i was just surprised i took him on the launch because i havent practiced much, but i looked at his tires and mine are WAY more agressive than his

Re: Camaro, GTO, Cobalt SS, and Redline

The GTO driver is an idiot! how the hell did he not realize it was a LS1 from the sound of the engine? I hate GTO guys just the same, serves him right, I hope he losses more races, gets tired of being made to look like the punk he is and trades that car in for a Mustang.

I keep going to these club meets from a local muscle car group in town right, theres like a ton of Camaros, GTOs, Mustangs, Vettes, Ford GTs and such and all the GTO guys I talk to are like total fucking douch bags. I mean there are a few exceptions, like 2 of them are cool but like 15 others are total dick heads. I love my car but 98% of the people that buy them are fat old ignorant slobs.
Its gotten to the point where i dont even go out in the Goat anymore, I rather be seen in my Redline.
