stuck in second gear

I have an '03 EXT that is stuck in second gear and a mechanic said I need a module for the transmission. Anyone out there ever have this problem and if so, was that how you fixed it?

Welcome to AF, how was this determined and what module exactly, really short on info here.

If it's stuck in any gear it should be third.. If you had a failed 1-2 solenoid you wouldn't have First or 4th gears.. But could still achieve 2 and 3. A failed 2-3 solenoid would take out 1st and second. 3rd gear can still be accieved even if the all of the transmissions electical components are disabled. You can test this by disconnecting the transmissions electrical connector at the transmission and see if this makes a difference in what gear you are starting in. However, if the control module or wireing has shorted to the point where the 2-3 solenoid is ALWAYS and the 1-2 solenoid is ALWAYS off then you could be stuck in 2nd gear. In any event you should have set multiple DTCs! If you have reverse this eliminates a few mechanical problems as well. Good Luck
