My wife hit a big puddle of water in her 2001 pontiac Montana. Apparently it bent the bracket holding the canister and evaporator hose. The fuel canister fell off and the evaporator hose is damaged. My question is why do I even need these parts, the car seems to be running just fine without them?

Re: Montana needs evaporator hose and canister
it returns the excess gas to the fuel tank.if it ain't there then you will have gas and fumes coming out. it could also mess up the tank pressure.
