1994 Bonne No Fuel No start. Strange Rig Job!

Ok so first I realized that usually when cold the car wont start. It will crank and has spark but no fuel. If you continue to crank, sometimes it will finally start and run great. Sometimes while driving the car will studder and shut off. Again no fuel but after a few minutes and some pumping of the gas pedal it will again start up and run fine. Now, the strangest thing is after changing multiple parts i decide to unplug the fuel pump relay. No change. Car Runs Without Relay. So then I un loom the wires by the fuel pump relay that run along the passengers feet and disappear to the back of the car. I find 5 orange wires run to a single orange wire, soldered and duct taped. Along with this I find two blue wires run to one blue wire. Soldered and duct taped. WTF! So after going through all the electrical diagrams I still cant figure out what the hell I have here besides and electrical abortion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some years had a secondary power source to the fuel pump from the oil pressure sender. That may explain why the car ran with the relay unplugged. Of course it could also be from the altered wiring. How did you check that it's not getting fuel?

My 96 was also hard to start unless i pumped the gas. Once i got it started it run fine. After goneing to a parts store 10 times to read codes and replaceing amost all the senors i finaly had a mechanic run a fuel pressure test for 20.00. My fuel pump was weak.I was only getting 20 psi. he was shocked it even ran. put in a new one turn the key fires right up. Wish i knew it was that sooner could of got the tires I wanted

I disconnected the fuel lines and cranked it.

Re: 1994 Bonne No Fuel No start. Strange Rig Job!

I'm 98% sure I have a wiring diagram for the fuel pump. PM with an email address if you want one. I'd start by checking the ground buses on both sides of the car. The fuel pump grounds there. I'll add a link to a how to article in a few minutes.

Here's the link. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...=article&k=102

This is going to come down to checking for 12 volts & a good ground at the fuel pump. The best way to do this is to wire in a high wattage light bulb to the same wires the fuel pump uses. An old headlight would be ideal but a brake light bulb will do. If the wiring for the fuel pump hasn't been altered you'll get power to the pump for just 2 seconds when the key is in the run position. Constant power while cranking.

If you have power at the fuel pump then the pump must be bad. This is assuming you have enough gas in the tank.

There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail that you can press to check for fuel. It's best to use a fuel pressure gauge but pressing in the valve will see if any fuel is present. Position your hands so fuel can't spray in your face & place a rag under the valve to catch the gas.

I agree Mickey...

Once you get through the troubleshooting...

Have the fuel pressure checked... Depending on the car... 3800 Tunned port or 3800 SC you should be in the 41-47 Psi range...
