1995 PA Stall/No start & repair?
We have a 95 Park Avenue. It had been stalling while driving. Sometimes it would start sometimes it wouldn't. Took it to our mechanic. After a couple of days of diagnostics (they spent time trying to get it to act up the way it was with us) They at first were not getting any codes but finally they got a code indicating that the ignition module was the problem and possibly the crank sensor (I think) So they replaced the ignition module, road tested and had the same problem, so they pulled the sensor and found that it was a mess (I believe it was burnt) so they replaced that. All was good for 2 days than it stalled and wouldn't start again. So back to the mechanic it went. Now they suspect the ECM. The mechanic kinda suspected the ECM to begin with until they were able to get the code for the ignition module. Sorry I don't know what the code was.
Does this sound like the ECM? How much more can we expect to pay? We've already put five hundred in for those other 2 parts possibly parts we didn't need to replace (well expect for the bad sensor). Any other ideas as to what the problem maybe? |

Re: 1995 PA Stall/No start & repair?
Well, one thing for sure, the 94-95 PCM has a reputation for being flaky! In addition, PCM’s, are difficult to troubleshoot and are usually simply changed out of frustration, after all other possibilities have been eliminated. Sometimes they correct the problem and sometimes not. You will never know until you change it. Even if it don’t correct the problem, you will have a spare PCM that you may eventually need anyway! You can get a rebuilt PCM with a lifetime warranty from O'Reilly Auto Parts for 100 bucks, or one from a JY with a 30 day warranty for 40-60 bucks. For me, that decision was the biggest no-brainer on the face of the earth!

And there may be a re-flash in your future with the used PCM. IIRC, some of the 1994-95 PCMs used EEPROM for the NVRAM, not UV PROMs.
My initial suspicions would be connections, like main power and bulkhead connections, and the ICM connection.

Also possible the Crank Position Sensor was not properley installed. If the gap setting is to close to the timing vanes in the harmonic balancer, they will chafe and fail in short order. Possible the clamp wasn't tightened properly.
