68 c10 transmission question
I have a 68 chevy half ton and it has a manual 4 speed. The shifter is a top mount (no external linkage) and first gear is a granny gear. Not sure the type of transmission as far as make /model but it is stuck between gears and can not get it to shift. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to free it up? Also is there a different tranny I could replace this one with that would bolt right in and not have such a low gearing? Thanks in advance. Roger

Re: 68 c10 transmission question
Been doing any speed shifting?
See if you can remove the shift stick and reach in there with a screw driver and get the shifting rods in it back to neuteral. Also look for wear on shifting stick and shifting rods and forks. You will need to check a salvage yard interchange on replacing with another trans.

Re: 68 c10 transmission question
CH465 unless it is a big block truck then it can be an NP435
there was also a warner and a NP435CRin these trucks years the CR version was not granny first gear and would bolt right in place of the others the stick you can remove by pushing out the roll pin at the shifter base where it goes into the top cover it is stuck in there is all i have had it happen to me many times with a CH465 in the past need a flashlight to look down in there and make sure the shift blocks look ok and not broken or anything these are a very reliable trans and super rarely does anything go bad in them usually only a synchronizer wears out or maybe a bearing although extremely rare you could put a side loader 4 speed in it such as a saginaw or muncie but you wil need a different driveshaft, one for a short tail 2wd trans from a 63-72 truck of the same bed length or hunt the junkyards under cars for one that is the same length 27 spline yoke really common th350 2004r th200C TH250 700r4, 4 speeds, 3 speeds basiclaly anything except a top loader 4 speed or a th400 the side loder 4 speed will stick onto your top loader bellhousing but the hole will be larger, but if you center it good then it will be ok, i have seen it done a few times i know someone with a 69 c-10 with a muncie 4 speedon the original big iron bellhousing, drives finegood luck
