92 Park Ave noisey supercharger

My supercharger is noisey, got the nose piece off the supercharger, the bearings are bad. I got the front bearing out, but the back one apears to be trapped. Does anyone know if I can get a new nose piece, or, is the shaft serviceable? Thanks!

Re: 92 Park Ave noisey supercharger

My supercharger is on the work bench now. It is a rebuilt replacement unit I ordered from a shop in Cal. about 2 years ago and now it it is starting to make noise again at 200K. I did replace the bearings once before that but got cautious after a year and opted for the replacement. Now I don't know what to do, and I sure don't want to get a $2K GM replacement. So what did you wind up doing? I am tempted to omit the supercharger, but I don't know what the consequences are.

With reference to the ramifications of supercharger bypass, the computer is using its software to reference airflow, rpm, and throttle position, allowing fuel control and diagnostics. I suspect you will piss the computer off; it will bury you in codes, not to mention the loss of driveability at all speeds. Ray

Re: 92 Park Ave noisey supercharger

chris,

how much for the bearings? is it hard to do? can you supply pics of it while you have it in pieces?

it would be very intresting to see as i will have to do mine sometime soon i fear

at what mileage did the bearings began to make noise?

from what i heard from a guy on my block who did his, it's not that bad when you do it yourself and it's a good as a rebuilt.. since they don't reinvent the wheel when magnuson rebuilts one and sells it to you at high cost...

it's all in the matter of the rigfht tools for the job..as i heard.

mine has 88000 miles on it.. so sooner or later i await that moment and prepare for it.
