Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

I have a 2001 Windstar that was imported new into the UK and passed the Type Approval test which allowed it to be registered there. I now wish to register the Windstar in spain where it will need to have another Type Approval and safety check. I am told that they will need to see a Homologation Number Tag that should be on the vehicle. Where can I find this Tag or where can I get the Homologation number for this type of vehicle. As a point of interest this vehicle has a multipoint Gas (Butane) conversion, with underfloor Tank, which means it shows 0.00 on the Carbon Test! And the oil stays clear from one change to the next. Thank You in advance.

Re: Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

What I am looking for is number which shows that the vehicle model has been 'Type Approved' by the DOT of the country of manufacture. To prove that this model has been through all the Crash Tests etc. And to prove that it is a production model and not just one of a handfull made for racing or other purposes. All the Tabs appear to be in place, with no signs of anything having been removed. Glanfx

Re: Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

Since no one else showed up...

I've never heard of a homologation number. In the US, the VIN is what matters (the number on the dash, visible through the windshield).

Sorry: I know this isn't helpful, but homologation numbers aren't a typical part of the automotive process in the US.

Re: Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

Did a little research on this.. my guess is the Vin number under the lower part of the windshield.. Not unless euro specs uses Vin number plus there own added with that. So what i mean is they could have created there own number and from what i am reading it can be put any where on the frame. So not sure where it could have been placed..

Re: Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

Thank you for taking the time to respond Phil-I.

Before I retired and moved to Spain, I spent many years to and from The USA, Importing vehicles. Like you I would say that Homologation usually only rears its head in racing circles. It was never an issue with the UK DOT. They just check the actual vehicle for compliance with certain requirements.

It seems the Spanish need "Chapter and Verse"

Once again thank you and best regards.

Re: Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

Garync1. Thank you for your time. The VIN used in the USA is pretty much standard throughout the world now. The UK and Euro VINs are the same amount of digits as The USA. Please see my previous reply to phil-I for my thoughts.

Thanks again,
glanfx

Re: Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

It would be nice if they had a standard location for this sticker......I am guessing it was added in the importation process.
Locations to check....which I am guessing you already checked......
VIN location on the top of the dashboard....left side of vehicle, visible through the windshield.

Inside of door pillar, where build location, tire pressure, etc stickers are located.

Under the hood.....where they have the emissions stickers....showing vaccum line diagram, spark plug information....certification....etc....
Look on the top of the radiator area where the hood prop is.....and on the shields......
ALSO look on the underside.....front part of the hood.....stickers usually are located on the right side of the hood (left as you stand in front of the car looking up under the hood)......look over the whole underside of the hood.

Would they have put it back in the cargo area?....even in where the jack goes?.......or on the metal around the inside of the hatch and pillars there?....

Inside the glove box?......Up under the visors......there usually are airbag warning labels there......

Like I said.....I am guessing that you looked at these locations already....

Re: Where is homologation number on 2001 Windstar?

Hi Wiswind,

Thank you for those suggestions.

The only place I can see anything unusual is on the Pillar sticker that is headed "Mfg by Ford Motor Company" and contains tyre pressures, axle weights, etc.

About the third line down is the VIN followed by Type- US Cert Void - Export.
I just wonder what is after Type on a USA sold vehicle?

Best Regards
glanfx
