OK guys, I need some help here. I am going by what I was told by a mechanic, so I may not be calling this by its right name, but.....
I need the location of the "idle motor" or maybe idle air control motor on a 93 Accord EX wagon 2.2L 4-cyl., with 5 speed. It's not listed on the underhood label, and my shop manual doesn't talk about it. It is whatever controls the engine air temperature and idle speed..... This car has had a gremlin from the beginning, and idles poorly, stalls on a cold start, runs rough thruout gear range, and hesitates. The problem seems to get better sometimes after it warms up. I can't begin to tell you all the parts that have been replaced, all the trip$ to the dealer, and all the people who have worked on this thing to "fix" it, and it still isn't right. Point being, now we're told replacing this idle air motor will fix it, and I am changing it myself in hopes it will run good enough to get rid of. Still love my 89 Accord though! Thanks in advance! |

Re: 93 Accord EX I.A.T. (idle motor??) location?
It lays sideways along the intake, with the business end near but behind the throttle plate...
![]() There's also a thermostatic valve that controls fast idle... ![]() looks like this... they are both expensive (about $250 for the motor, $75 for the valve)...I'd clean the valves with WD-40 and make sure the ports were clear before spending that kinda money...

Re: 93 Accord EX I.A.T. (idle motor??) location?
Thanks!! I 'm going to get them from my local pic-a part, and plan on getting an ECU also. They're very reasonable with any part, and the ECU is one thing that hasn't been replaced. I'll try the port cleaning first, though.
Hope this fixes it..... |
