I am replacing the engine on a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. The motor is a long block. This is manual transmission. I am at repalcing the pilot bearing. On the new motor there is too much space where the bearing goes. But in the old motor it appears that the bearing sits in a sleeve of some kind. (real thick) I guess my question I have is how to get this part out to put on my new motor and what is it called? This seems to be pressed in.

Re: Pilot Bearing HELP!!!!?????
I have done this several times.
take a bar of soap and scrape the bar against the bushing untill the slot is full of shaveings of soap. . then pack it like a cannon. Get a steal dowell (round stock) just under the size of the bushing. One that fits snug in the bushing. put the dowell into the packed bushing/sleave and Hit the dowell rod with a good size hammer. The bushing will pop right out. follow me? |
