'97 Buick Park Avenue fuel sender wrench

Who knows where to get an affordable wrench to remove the locking ring from the fuel tank sending unit? This one's too tight for the hammer method.

I don't know what is affordable to you but, This One is the only one I have seen. This would not be affordable to me!

Isn't this a crime how car makers force people to their shops for repairs by having such expensive special tools. You are right - that is not affordable. I found one for $127 and thought that was crazy. And then how do you know it is really the right one?

Hammer method will work.I though mine was welded on.I used a 10 pound hammer with an old 6" long 1/2" extension.Just be sure not to hammer the same tab and rotate to each tab.Believe me,it will come loose.

Use a brass punch here to avoid sparks.

I was hoping to avoid taking the tank off to be able to get a straight shot with a punch/hammer. The access hole in the trunk leaves little room to get a good angle for pounding it loose. I think I will make a wrench.

Re: '97 Buick Park Avenue fuel sender wrench

I've had reasonable success using two pairs of Chan-Nel-Lock pliers to walk the ring around after soaking with B"Laster PB. I don't recall ever having to hammer on an in-tank unit locking ring, but we only get road salt for six months out of the year around here, so other areas might be worse.

Did you ever get your sender unit replaced? I can help with the wrench and the sender unit if you are still waiting to fix it.

It's best to email me, because I don't check the forum that often.
