Nissan Diagnostics.

I now own two nissans with the same diagnostics system.
The connectors are the same as OBDII but my scangauge II can't read them. It appears to be the Consult II system which is later than the first consult which scanners are everywhere for but doesn't seem to be standard OBDII either.

One car is a 98 with a QG18DE engine, the other is a 2000 with a YD22 diesel.
Getting my scangauge to work would be the nicest solution, but a laptop plugin would be excellent too.

does it not even read a good connection? ive used mostly OTC and MAC versions of the genesys OBDII code reader, and sometimes it just wont read that the car is KOEO and the cable is connected. its a harness/connector issue that i really havent tried to fix, since when a customer car comes in with a CEL i cant read, most often they dont want to do anything about it. you could try and splice a new connector into the ECU harness, using a wiring diagram, or if your sure its your scantool, i dont know what you can do but get a new one. if your on a budget, MAC tools sells a little palm sized scanner for like 75 bucks that will read any obdII DTCs.

My Nissans are Japanese spec and as far as I can tell aren't true OBDII like the US cars are.
It receives power but can't establish a connection. Since the scangauge has an RJ45 plug, I could make a jumper cable to massage the pin-outs.

I'm not having any CEL issues, it's about monitoring the engine.

thats what id try. it seems like the issue your having is the same one ive seen, it gets power to the scantool and seems like it wants to connect but cant establish if the car is KOEO or w/e. i would try and fiddle with the wiring with a diagram in hand, maybe if you can jumper straight to the ECU plug.

Yeah that's the plan, I'll let you know how it goes.
If no luck, then there's a scangauge II up for sale, brand new.
