clunking near alternator or pully

My daughters 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited started making a clunking sound. I happens while idling in park. it sounds like either the tensioner pulley or altenator. Has any body seen this in theirs? Which is more likely to go bad or is it something else?

Thanks

Re: clunking near alternator or pully

Just last week I started hearing a whirring noise coming from the engine on my '94 Jeep GC. It sounds like it's from the belt (one of the pulleys). I couldn't pinpoint it. It happens both when idling or running.

Cheep83: Do you hear the noise while driving or just idling?

Thanks for your reply. It was all the time. I loosened the belt, I found out it was the idler pully bearing went bad. I never heard an idler make a noise like this but was glad that was all that was wrong. An easy fix.

The forum is a great place to find answers

Thanks again
