96 cavalier no start/theft light on

i accidentally put in the wrong key to start and the theft system light came on. everywhere i got info about resetting stated that the light would be flashing then cut off in 10 minutes. light stays solid consistently. is this meaning there is something else wrong? one morning it flashed off and started but then went right back to before. the key i stuck in there was a key with no black head, sort of like a valet key with the same cut. it opens doors but not the black key. car came from auction with the black key. somebody help me. i got to get it fixed and sold!

Yeah, try to turn it on and when it turns back off, leave it for 15 minutes, regardless if the light blinks or not. To be sure, leave it 20 then try to start it, if it doesnt work, take the negative off your battery and leave it off for 10 minutes, then put it on, and this time put the key to the ON position and leave it for 20 minutes and then try, do not try to start it first. See if that works

Re: 96 cavalier no start/theft light on

ok, check this out, on this passlock system,if the resistor is in the keylock, what difference did it make if i accidentally used the valet looking key? only difference is it doesnt have the black rubber head. what is the difference between the light flashing or being solid? i keep getting info that it should flash? also i have the battery out charging (been out since yesterday)because it went dead last time trying to get it to reset. i will try again as soon as i get time.
