Unhappy 93' Fuel pump problems

Hi i just recently bought a 93' acclaim The car is in pretty good shape new tranny alt. radiator, etc. But it has one prob., it wont start. The person i bought it off of says its the fuel pump. The car will crank but wont start. Im not really sure what the proceedre is for putting a new pump in. I was told that i have to drop the tank... but before i do this i was wondering if it could be an easier fix than dropping the tank and such. Is there a fuel pump restart button in the car? perhaps it was ran dry? the gas was low in it when i got it. i had it towed to my house. I put a few gallons in it and tried it with no result. I had a ford that did that once and the restart button was in the trunk and im not sure if the acclaims have one? I know its not a ford lol but please can you help?? if i do have to drop the tank can you please tell me how?
thanks,
sean

Re: 93' Fuel pump problems

do you here the pump run when you turn the ignition on? before you put a pump in you might want to diagnose the problem. try renting a fuel pressure guage from the auto parts store. and if fuel pressure is good check spark next.

i don't believe their is a reset switch.
