Arrow Anyone ever travel in an RV? Experiences? (+RV Pics)

My girl and I are planning on doing an RV trip across the USA sometime in the not too distant future.

Anyone ever done it? How did it go?

We went to an RV show here in West Palm Beach FL this past weekend to check some of the recreational vehicles in person.

We're thinking that one of these small 20-24 foot Class C RVs would best suit our needs. Here's a few pics from the show.

If anyone is interested the other pics are here - WPB RV Show.

Sounds like fun! I've gone cross country, but it was in a moving van and not in an RV. Plan on getting 10mpg and having a fantastic time.

Re: Anyone ever travel in an RV? Experiences? (+RV Pics)

If you actually plan to enjoy the drive, those smaller RV's like the kind you see are much better than the "bus" type.

Those huge RV's are only useful when parked.

Get the diesel engine. The fuel savings on a long trip will be substantial over gasoline engines.

Many RV's are made for the rental market, where gas engines are preferred. This is to keep the initial purchase price down and to ensure those renters unfamiliar with a diesel don't screw them up.

You will find parking an RV overnight is a pain if you do not have a campsite. Many municipalities, rest stops etc do not allow RV's overnight.
However, Walmart stores nationwide welcome RV's and allow them to park overnight

With just the two of you definitely go with as small of a rig as you can find, getting around will be so much easier especially when you hit the big cities. If it gets a bit claustrophobic you can always stay at a motel with the gas money you saved.

I'd do a cross-country trip, but in my car. Stupid large vehicles...

Or I'd do it in one of those bus RVs because I'm a spoiled brat like that

Why not see another country instead? I bet you could take a kick ass trip around South America for the same $.

I asked my dad when he retired if he was going to get one of those. He said "No, I can get a hell of a lot of motel rooms for that much money and never have to clean one"
