I was thinking that too but the heat comes and goes as the gauge goes up and down. If it was just the gauge the heat would stay constant then.

Re: SS Line Connector

Heater core works fine. This I know for a fact. That thing is burning hot when a) working, and b) warmed up idling.

Re: SS Line Connector

And an update!!!!

So when I was jumping the car last night, I noticed when it starts up (and I've notice this before) smoke/steam coming off the header. I just assumed the leak from the line was working it's way over to the header. I squeezed that little rubber hose from the thermostat going to the heater line, and it shot coolant all over the header. Loose clamp there. Actually both of them were loose. I haven't touched those since the accident and I replaced with C-Clamps.

I tightened both of them up and squeezed. They're holding good but I may replace with a T-clamp latter and replace that hose. It's still original and does show wear.

So now the heat works A LOT quicker. Still takes some time to heat up, but I did a quick drive to the store down the block and it was getting warm by the time I got there. Also the temp gauge seemed to not move around that much. So the heat shrink around the SS line works fine, no leaks, and now I have no coolant leaking anywhere.

Now just have to fix the battery issue.

Re: SS Line Connector

I have to jump it almost every time I use it in the winter. I'm thinking it's actually the alternator now since I've done everything right with the battery. It was funny when I was working on it last night, I jumped the car, let it run for 5 minutes. I turned it off for literally 5 seconds and went to turn it on, and there wasn't enough power to start again. The battery is great, all connections are great, and it shows it charging, but the alternator is original. In the spring I'm going to replace it. I would like to do it now but I know it's a little difficult to do and I don't have the time to do it. Plus I'll be swapping out my rack and pinion which will also make it a little easier also.

Re: SS Line Connector

If its not holding the charge I would bet its the Alt. Even the smallest standby light will drain the bat in a matter of hours.

Re: SS Line Connector

Well it's gotten worse over the years and I've replaced the battery numerous times, so I'm guessing it's the alternator now.

Re: SS Line Connector

Definately, batteries aren't shit without the Alt. Found that out the hard way.

Re: SS Line Connector

You should take the alternator off and take it to advance auto parts and get it checked for free. But anyways. If the battery is charged and is good, then the car should start fine repeatedly regardless of the alternator.

Re: SS Line Connector

I really need to take care of this problem now soon. I jumped the car and let it run a little and it died while still in the alley. Gah. And I live in the alley.

I need warm weather!
