painting bumper

So basically about four months after having my car repainted someone, probably a female, decided to tap my car when parallel parking. It cracked my paint on my bumper in the ridge around the exhaust pipes. My car is white so i think i am going to paint it flat black in the area under the ridge, like some convertibles that i've seen. What do ya'll think abouot that idea.

No need for sexist remarks. It was probably me. Jk.

You just had the whole car painted right? So Im assuming the rest of the paint looks great. I would just get the bumper fixed.

I dont particularly care for the two contrasting colors look, but I've never seen one painted like you are talking about.

Re: painting bumper

That's what we call the CETA mod. I think that would look great on your car. Just like this:

Re: painting bumper

Also, i'm just curious to when they first starting doing this? And if there is any story behind it. Just pure curiousity and an opportunity for someone to flex their car knowledge muscles

Re: painting bumper

They call it the CETA mod because of the 2002 Collectors Edition Trans Am (CETA) having come with it already painted like that from the factory.

Not sure how long people have been doing it though, probably long before the 2002 CETA was even released. As for the paint to use, any of the automotive spray can paints will work fine. You can find a whole section of tons of different colors of paints at your closest auto parts store. Just find the shade of black you want and grab a couple cans of that and some clear coat as well. Also you'll want to grab some of the wet/dry 3M sandpaper as well. Here is a really nice write-up on how to do the whole process and what materials are needed. Having not done this myself, this should help you more than I can.
