1997 GMC Sierra 1500 series w/vortec
I have the truck listed above. The problem is that it won't start all the time..only when it wants to it seems. Getting plenty of fire and gas ( even fouling out plugs), once they dry out..it starts and will continue to start for about 2-3 weeks and then does it all over again...any ideas??

Need some more info. Does the problem happen when the engine is overnight cold? Only happens when it sits for an hour? Only happens when the engine is hot?
Does it have a pattern? //2000CAYukon

no specific times, but mostly when it is cold i guess. my husband seems to think that the fuel regulator may be staying open to long or that a sensor could be going bad...

Bought a GM one from the dealer and it has worked great. BTW, I drive the same year and model truck with a 305 vortec, and have had my share of problems with it if it matters.

Once the plugs get fouled with gas, the weaker they become. The additives in the fuel contaminate the plugs and reduce its effectiveness. Anytime you foul them, there is a reason and it should be found and corrected, and the plugs replaced.
Its sounds like you may need a complete tune up. I recommed you use only GM parts for the greatest satisfaction. Insist your shop USE only AC Delco parts. Many parts are now coming from off shore and the quality cannot compare to the oem parts so don't let them talk you into cheaper parts, you get what you pay for.
