"Service 4X4" light on, no dtc given

"Service 4X4" light is coming on but there is no diagnostic code when daignostic computer is connected. I had this problem initially on vacation, added fluid to 4X4 dif, noticed that seal was leaking also. Took it to mechanic I trust and had difs, transmission, and transfer cases serviced, also needed new seal, and u joint replaced. The light still comes on when it wants, also having problems with getting it to shift into any 4 wheel position.

Thanks for your response

I believe i have the same exact problem. I get the service 4x4 light every now and then and sometimes i notice that the 2HI light is very dim or not on at all, but i never have any problems with it going into 4x4. I'm glad to hear that the switch is only $55 bucks

There have been several having problems with the 4WD selector switch. They have cracked solder joints on the back of the connector pins. If you solder, this is an easy fix. Remove the dash trim, remove the switch, seperate the back housing from the switch and look very closely at the solder joints on the back of the 12 (I think) pins. There were hairline cracks on 6 of mine. I resoldered all pins and haven't had a problem since.
