1999 Mercury Sable Transmission Problems Advice Need
I just bought a 1999 sable with the 24 valve duratec and I drove the car all the from a 100 miles distance and the tranismission seemed to shifting fine beside a rough shift shock between 2 and 3 th gear, but other than no slippage or anything problemtic. After I drove these 100 miles tha transmission started to slip from stoped possition and I had to go very slow on the gas till it picked up into a gear and took off slowly by slipping a bit. I read the code from the check engine light and it is P-1744. On the next day when the car was cold it wasn't slipping as bad as the other day. I checked fluid it seems to be ok. I was wondering if someone can give an advice on how to troubleshoot and determine if I can either fix it by flushing the fluid and replacing the tranny filters or maye look for some electrical problem. I know if I take it to a shop I would just tell me tranny rebuild no questions asked. So my hopes are in your previous expreriences guys thanks in advance.

Re: 1999 Mercury Sable Transmission Problems Advice Need
unfortunately when something like this starts to occur, things like a flush and filter change tend to not do anything, if not make things worse.
How many miles are on the car?
