Question 88 Nissan Pathfinder V6 Driveability problems?

My Nissan loads up with fuel intermittently and will spudder and die. Sometimes it runs fine, but other times it will load up and run very rich. I also noticed it misfires on the upper end. Now this truck has been basically gutted of all emissions controls. The cat has been gutted out. It's pretty much for offroad use. I put a set of good injectors in it. plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter. I am suspecting a possible MAF sensor. Anyone have this problem? This thing goes through fuel quick. Maybe even ECT sensor? The idle is high as well. Any advice helps.

I think you answered your own question in the 3rd or 4th phrase. "gutted out of all emissions". When the O2s go bad in these, they run just as you said. So did you just remove the cat, or did you also remove O2? If O2 has been removed it needs to be reinstalled, if it hasn't been removed it might need to be replaced.

Could also be the wax choke or multiple TBI switches and associated wiring. You never can tell until you test stuff or replace the obviously broken stuff. Get yourself a factory service manual on Ebay if you can, that helps a TON.

Cool Re: 88 Nissan Pathfinder V6 Driveability problems?

I'd go with O2 sensor and possible fuels system needing rebuild??

Yea I'd say O2 sensor. Did you replace with stock injectors?

I had the same problem with my 88 pathfinder but it was both the ect and the downstream o2 sensor combined during my diagnostic i also stumbled on a tsb about the tbi injectors but if youve replaced them it shouldnt matter.
