98 tahoe interior lights stay on.

I have a 98 2 door chevy tahoe, yesturday i went out in the morning and everything was fine. After i got back in my trunk and was driving i noticed that the interior lights were still on. Once i got home a made sure all the doors and back glass were closed. They still stayed on. I tried to hit the dome override button but nothing. I made sure the dimmer wasnt up and they still stay on. I replaced the 2 door switches and im waiting for the back one to come in. THe weird thing is if you sit in the truck with all the doors closed and wait for the lights to turn off you will hear a click but they still stay on. Any body have any help full hints on how to narrow it down?

Re: 98 tahoe interior light stay on.

Get a wiring diagram for the interior lights and start narrowing it down.

Just a shot in the dark here... if the ground side is relay controlled, there could be a short to ground before the relay.

short to ground is a good possibility, try removing the relay and see if lights go off. if so, try swapping relay with known good one, if lights still stay on, get the diagrams!

Re: 98 tahoe interior light stay on.

Looking at my '98 C/K shop manual. I do not see a relay in the circuit. Everything is controlled electronically

There are these 4 items.

1. Door Lock Control Module. (middle of the left "c" pillar) (in the vicinity of the left wheel well cover)
2. Interior Lamp Control Module. (under center of dash)
3. Remote Control Door Lock Receiver. (right side of the steering column support bracket under the I/P).
4. The Headlight switch

There are 15 trouble shooting steps involved with your problem which is way too much to list here.

Your local library may have GM service manuals for your Tahoe.

Re: 98 tahoe interior light stay on.

So far im still having problems. I noticed then when the truck is running and the lights wont go out that if you sit in there for a min the will flicker not on and off but they will keep dimming. I replaced the 2 door switches and the headlight switch still no luck. Any way to test the modules? You hear the mudule click when it should but they just dim they wont shut off all the way. Any ideas?
