90 ranger made noise now won't start

This truck has been through some stuff. Doesn't help that two teenagers ripped around in it for the better part of a year, but it always ran good. Recently, I got it from my Brother and finally got the muffler and exaust put back on prefessionaly. That cost me a pretty penny, but somewhere in the engine compartment it had this loud noise, like a belt freaking out or something was rubbing/grinding terribly. I was gonna get it looked at on my next pay day, but as I tried to start it after work one night, it didn't do anything. Everything that involved power would go dim and this odd noise, kinda like a snapping or perhaps a clicking, I want to say it sounded like a electric snap sound emitted when I would turn the key. But Nothing. I've tried turning the little thing on the alternator, and it won't budge, perhaps the bearings finally went, can't be too tough to turn right, even with the belts attached.

IT was pretty loud before it just up'd and didn't do anything. I want to say it is the alternator, but I can't be certain seeing as that not a single soul will come out and look at it, and it's still sitting in my work's parking lot.

Take the belt off and check all the pulleys would be the place where I would start. could very well be a bad bearing in one of them
