was this the same remote that came with the car, or did you purchase it from somewhere else?

Re: 98 Grand Prix GT keyless entry problem???

interesting.

I guess maybe make sure that all the fuses are good for the rke systems and also make sure your following the reprogramming procedure exactly.

Then maybe I'd get a different remote with the same serial numbers on the back of the one you have and attempt to program it. Got a different vehicle that has the same remotes?

Re: 98 Grand Prix GT keyless entry problem???

Did you make sure the battery is installed properly, and not upside down? How are you trying to reprogram it? Are you doing the resync proceedure (holding down the lock and unlock buttons for 10 secs) or are you actually putting the BCM in programming mode by removing the Mall-PGM fuse and following the proceedure in the owners manual?

Re: 98 Grand Prix GT keyless entry problem???

You can reprogram it like this.

1. Remove the key from the ignition.

2. Close all of the doors.

3. Remove the “ MALL PGM” fuse from the fuse panel. Use the legend on the fuse panel or owner’s manual to properly locate the “ MALL PGM” fuse.

4. Insert the keys into the ignition, and turn to the ACC position.

5. Turn the key to OFF and then back to ACC within 1 second.

6. Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard when the system enters the programming mode.

7. Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds. IMPORTANT: After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful synchronization. It is necessary to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime that will confirm successful programming.

8. Repeat the previous step on each additional transmitter to be programmed (including any existing remotes).

9. Remove the key from the ignition.

10. Install the “MALL PGM” fuse.

I went through this procedure with my 98 GT with an aftermarket remote and it worked like a charm. Just be sure to follow the instructions word by word, or else it wont work.

You should hear your car making a bunch of annoying beeps if you do it right. Just be sure you do EVERYTHING word by word. If it just doesnt work, you could have a malfunction with your keyless reciever/remote.
