04 grand prix questions
Hey guys I finally got rid of my 97 GT after 163k miles for the 04 GT. I was wondering what issues should I look out for in this newer model. Also any TSBs and recall information would be helpful. What good mods are out there? I usually just go with intake and exaust nothing too ridiculous. Thanks for your input!!!!!!!!!!

Only problems I have experienced with my '04 (owned at 28K has presently 156K miles) are two major things:
a) Two intermediate steering wheel shafts have cracked. First one was at32K miles fixed under warranty, the second broke at 152K miles. It will start to feel like a click while gripping your steering wheel as you are turning in either direction semi-sharply. Over time it will more become more pronounced. b) The one that chaps my hide. Freak'n GM didn't fix the interior leaking on the passenger side when its fine engineers did the design update on the body for '04. It will happen to you. I'm still trying to figure out how my front passenger side gets wet and the passenger rear becomes a swamp. My aerospace buddies could teach GM a thing or two about sealing up vehicle interiors. Besides the two gripes, I love my '04.

Great I think I may have the steering one. I noticed a knocking in the front end right after I bought it from the dealer. So much the the GM used car inspection. It was actually doing it during the test drive and I did not feel it again so paid it no attention, well I did mention it briefly to the salesman. It has 75k on it so out of warranty for that. I just bought it yesterday so maybe I can get it fixed some how. Is there a recall on it? how dangerous is that problem? Looks like I will have the cowl seal replaced before I get the unwanted lake in my car. My 97 GT leaked during a rain storm and i had like an inch of water in my car. Thanks again

Also look for the Onstar antenna (if equipped) to leak. It's an easy fix, but still it was an issue. Also, I've heard some having trouble with their sunroof's but I've had no problems with mine, Knock on Wood.
Also if it does have Onstar, it'll problably have to be update with the digital upgrade as the 04's were analog. In order to get the update you'll have to pay a $15 fee for the part and $200 for a one year subscription.
